Enid from "Ghost World"

Enid from "Ghost World"

"Ghost World" is based on Daniel Clowes' graphic novel, and the world in which hipster Enid lives is painful, beautiful and awkward. With a best friend like Scarlett Johansson and a love interest like Steve Buscemi, is it any wonder that Thora's character wore a perpetual scowl with her constantly changing hair colors? She bought records from neo-Nazis and harassed poor Brad Renfro, and unlike Lindsay from "Freaks and Geeks," Enid never really cared about other people's feelings. She was too smart not to be pissed off by everything and everyone, but her refuge in specialized pop culture, Bollywood music, comic books, S/M fetish gear, made up for her lack of people skills.

Choice quote: "I think only stupid people have good relationships."

  1. I love that adaptation of that graphic novel. I adore anything with Steve Buscemi. He's wonderful as ever. Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson are great in this, perhaps their best performances to date. Its a funny and dark film that stays with you after you watch it.
