SSYMM

I wonder why I never heard anyone talk about this song before. I like it a lot. It reminds me of a hurricane occurring in slow motion.

Anime babes

Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
'Cause the cartoon has got the boom anime babes
That make me think the wrong thing

- "One week", Barenaked ladies

That phrase has been in my head for a while although it must have been at LEAST 6-7 years since the last time I'd heard the song (apart from now when I just looked it up on YouTube). Wow...so 1999, was it? Catchy tune. The band was totally a one hit wonder, weren't they?

I like Anime though. Neon Genesis Evangelion is awesome. You have to dedicate some time to watching it from beginning to end, otherwise it doesn't make sense, but it's definitely worth it. & I always wanted to look like an "Anime babe".

"Star people 97", George Michael

Star People
Counting your money till your soul turns green
Star people
Counting the cost of your desire to be seen

I DO NOT COUNT MYSELF AMONG YOU
I may be living in a dream
It's just there seem so many of you
Can't help but hope
There's a difference between....you and me

You're a star
(I'm talking to you)
You're a star

Maybe your mama gave you up boy
(it's the same, old same old)
Maybe your daddy didn't love you enough, girl

Star people
Never forget your secret's safe with me
Just look at all the wonderful people
Trying to forget they had to pay for what you see

IT'S A DREAM
WITH A NIGHTMARE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE
But where would you be
Without all of that attention
YOU'D DIE
I'D DIE

We'd die wouldn't we
(Well wouldn't we)

Talk about your mother
Talk about your father
Talk about the people
Who have made you what you are
Talk about your teacher,
The bully boy who beat you
Talk about the people who have paid
For that new sports car

Did you get off on a bad foot, baby
Do you have a tittle tale to tell
Is that why you're a star?
Is that what makes a star?

Nothing comes for nothing, baby
That fame and fortune's heaven sent
& who gives a fuck about your problems, darling
When you can pay the rent

How much is enough?

- "STAR PEOPLE 97", George Michael

"Witches Rave", Jeff Buckley

it sounds just like a scream, i don't know what you mean
your witchcraft's all around me in your ragged pagan scene
you tell me all the ways around my garden that you like
i float just like a bubble heading for a spike

all is well between the breasts of passenger and slave
we'll never make it out alive to join the witches' rave

you'd like to see him suffer for you fantasy and thrill
he fell sick while we made love, he's out there, somewhere, still
oh, i feel the spell that you have cast,
hot, pink, nasty
bubble gum, coming down just like a big red coal

i can't help from looking outside for a guarantee
i can't help from looking outside for a guarantee

hey! I try to keep all hidden when you come around
oh, no! the sight of broomsticks sliding on the ground
you're levitating something,? cause i feel so collectible

we're all lying natural,
he's watching from a window up above
i see he loves you,
i'll bring you closer
something in my fate says it's not right for me
tell me, am i cursed or am i blessed?
i can't tell, oh yes! ?

- "Witches rave", Jeff Buckley

I'm in a musical frenzy. All the stuff I'm posting has been meaningful to me @ some point & in some cases still is, & it all brings back so many memories, things that are flashing through my mind. But for the moment I'm just posting the songs & lyrics...I can't keep up with the rest even if I tried.

The following image (1) always reminded me of the line I float just like a bubble heading for the spike

(1) by Cole Rise via Ruby Mag

Dirty whirlwind

Oh there is a murderess amongst us
HER LOVE IS A VIOLENT SPIRAL
Hurling in upon us, conjured up
At the birth of the world

Durga is a dancer
Mindless questions find no answers
Slicing through the ether
Yeah she's gleaming like mother of pearl

Dirty little whirlwind
COMMANDER, CONTROLLER

I FOUND YOU!
Dirty little whirlwind
I am pinned by the heat of your swirl
Dirty little whirlwind
DEFENDER, DESTROYER

I FOUND YOU!
Dirty little whirlwind
Tangled up in the flesh of a girl

Oh you could curl up beside me
The spark in your eyes belies the apocalypse inside you
Twisting the pits from the particle
Skull can't save face
So shake the shame from it
Burn me up inside you
Let me churn in your furnace of whirl

All that I ever wanted to be was destroyed at sea
Hurricane rescued me salvaged calamity
Do not delay we stood in place for it
Turn me up inside you
Up and into the heart of your world

"I wish", Skee-Lo

This was another of the vids I remember seeing on MTV back around 1995 after I'd first moved to Buenos Aires. I would catch it on the Top 10 USA countdown which was on Friday night & also included the likes of TLC & Coolio. I enjoyed the song & still do. Girl Talk uses it in one of his mash ups so I recently heard it again there, but I feel like I had never really forgotten about it.

As I girl I liked the part that said

Hey, I wish I had my way
Cause everyday would be a Friday

You could even speed on the highway

: )

"I wish", Skee-lo

Rush hour soul

- "Rush hour soul", Supergrass

There's something I feel inside
But still I'm foul
And I would know it when it comes
Like a comet drifts to the sun
That's the way I feel
Can't ignore it when it comes

Sao Paolo

Waiting in the club lounge
I slot in so systematicly
I wanna smash it to pieces
Release this hatred inside of me

You know you fill me with passion
But I just act apologetically
I'm gonna miss you in fashion
All ashen faced with my deceit

Sao Paulo
Why am I bringing me down?
Sao Paulo
If I drink any more I will drown
Sao Paulo
Why can't I fight truth decay?
Sao Paulo
My life is just one big cliche

Another stain on my passport
I wanna travel so futuristically
I just wish I could beam up, team up
And soon be on my way

You told me we'd go to Rio
And you said it so charismatically
I know it's me that's the nightmare
So fight fair or have some decency

You sure put a spin on my day
Why am I heading your way
Everything is coming up grey
I'm just a humble DJ

- "Sao Paolo", Morcheeba

Yet another of the million songs that when I first read the lyrics I was like OMG THIS IS SoOo ME. It's been a part of my life for many years now.

On another note, I wish I could blame the full moon for how hurricane-y I've been feeling these past couple of days. Because full moons have an effect on the human psyche, you know. But in truth it's kinda like this all the time LOL.

Mind > heart

Love me for my mind, cause I'm a dangerous heart
- "One way mule", Silverchair

I mean, I love your heart
But it's your mind if I had to choose
- "Laugh about it", NERD

It has been said that the longest journey is from the mind to the heart. & that longer still, is the journey that takes us back from the heart to the mind.

Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me & Manix in my soup

Another song that has recently come back into my life: “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me” by U2. To be honest I’m not a big fan of theirs...at all. But this song is special 2 me, as are the others I got to know through MTV right after I’d moved to Argentina in 1995. This song remained in my head & produced something similar to what nowadays I call That Faraway Feeling. It’s got a lot of orchestral arrangements, violins & stuff. Something I later really enjoyed in artists like Silverchair (their later work), Rufus Wainwright & Andrew Bird.

On another note I see the Manic Street Preachers everywhere. There is an expression in Spanish for this, “hasta en la sopa”, which means “even in your soup”. So a couple of lines totally reminded me of them. Firstly ♫ You’ve been turning tricks with your crucifix, you’re a star ♫. Richey often wore a crucifix as can be see on the cover of their 1st album, Generation Terrorists. There is a song called "Crucifix kiss". & in another music Richey & Nicky have the cross in their mouths & stuff. Both @ the same time ; D

Another line that totally jumped out @ me was ♫ Dressing like your sister, living like a tart ♫ bc that’s what they did, especially during the early years. Feather boas, glitter, leopard print, eyeliner. I LOVE IT.

Anyways I read the lyrics from beginning to end & they’re all fairly relevant & descriptive of the Manics.

You don't know how you took it
You just know what you got
Oh Lordy you've been stealing
From the theives and you got caught
In the headlights
Of a stretch car
You're a star

Dressing like your sister
Living like a tart
They don't know what you're doing
Babe, it must be art
You're a headache
In a suitcase
You're a star

Oh no, don't be shy
You don't have to go blind
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me

You don't know how you got here
You just know you want out
Believing in yourself
Almost as much as you doubt
You're a big smash
You wear it like a rash
Star

Oh no, don't be shy
There's a crowd to cry
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me

They want you to be Jesus
They'll go down on one knee
But they'll want their money back
If you're alive at thirty-three
And you're turning tricks
With your crucifix
You're a star

(Oh child)

Of course you're not shy
You don't have to deny love
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me

-
“Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me”, U2

I'm not saying the song is about them, of course. But it's a fun coincidence. Lastly, I remember having gone to see Batman Forever (the song is from that film's OST) @ the cinema. Same with the previous one, Batman Returns (right?) That was in Barcelona, one of my brothers took me. & it was the first PG-13 movie I ever saw. I was 7 @ the time & felt SOoOoO COOL.

Two fine lovers & Sean Lennon

When I first fell in love
Is when I felt your touch
But there's so much more I want to say
We need to keep it real
Sharing what we feel
Together we can face tomorrow

If we ever get up at 7 o'clock it's too soon
It's better to stay in bed 'till half past noon

Cause we're two fine lovers
So much to discover
Two fine lovers
Living under cover

When I look into your eyes
I came to realize
That you were so much more
than my best friend
I'll be there 'till the end
I'm a one woman man
Cause baby you are all I'll ever need

If we ever get up at seven o'clock it's too soon
It's better to stay in bed 'till half past noon

Cause we're two fine lovers
So much to discover
Two fine lovers
Living under cover
We're two fine lovers

- "Two fine lovers", Sean Lennon

Always thought the lyrics said "living underwater". Maybe this is bc Sean Lennon has another song I rly enjoy called "Bathtub". They are both among my favorites by him. But this one particularly makes me wanna live & love : P

Anyways Sean Lennon. I adore his voice. It's so young, playful, innocent, quirky. Other gr8 tracks are "Happiness" (EPIC SONG) & "Queue". These are all from the album Into The Sun. Actually I rly like the title track too. He sings it with Yuka Honda from Cibo Matto, one of my MOST FAVORITEST BANDS EVER (I have 1000 but yeah : ) They dated for a while. He also played on Cibo's 2nd album, "Stereo Type A". But the 1st song I ever heard by him was "Home". They used to play the video on MTV around 2001. In it he's walking down the street with his knees are bent & the rest of his body horizontal to the ground & there are goldfish swimming all around. The chorus says ♫ Watching the shadows on the wall, tell me, can you see my thoughts? ♫ I used to have that as the title on my LiveJournal when I was in high school heh. Nowadays that's how I feel about Swami Paramtej when I see him.

Hello it's me

This is definitely one of my favorite songs of ALL TIME. There must be over 100, but it doesn't matter. It's one of those songs that has been important in my life. That I felt ~INTENSELY~ & that was in my head for a long, long time. During different times & situations, in relation to different people, but always with the same intensity. In fact I made this little graphic about 6 years ago

That was a really fun night btw, & I saw the person I was thinking so much about : D
Anyways...

Hello, it's me
I've thought about us for a long, long time
Maybe I think too much but something's wrong
There's something here that doesn't last too long
Maybe I shouldn't think of you as mine

Seeing you
Or seeing anything as much as I do you
I take for granted that you're always there
I take for granted that you just don't care
Sometimes I can't help seeing all the way through

It's important to me
That you know you are free
'Cause I never want to make you change for me

Think of me
You know that I'd be with you if I could
I'll come around to see you once in a while
Or if I ever need a reason to smile
& spend the night if you think I should

It's important to me
That you know you are free
'Cause I never want to make you change for me

Think of me
You know that I'd be with you if I could
I'll come around to see you once in a while
Or if I ever need a reason to smile
And spend the night if you think I should

Think of me...
Think of me...
Think of me...

- "HELLO IT'S ME", TODD RUNDGREN

I came to know the track through The Virgin Suicides. @ 1 point the boys call the girls & play this song right away, they put the phone next to the record player without saying anything. Since it begins saying "Hello it's me", it's totally fitting. The music, vocals & feel just EXUDE 70s love. If I'm not mistaken, Todd Rundgren later went on2 do very different things from this song, such as produce the Ramones.

Grease & Gus Gus

Quick note 2 say I went 2 see Mompox tonight & they were amazing.
Also, these 2 songs popped into my head this week. I got the urge 2 listen 2 them, so I downloaded &/ or put them on my iPod. It was a really good week btw.

- “Starlovers”, Gus Gus

I am in love with god
I am in love with stars
I am in love with something
coming close from far.

You are in love with god
You are in love with stars
You are in love with something
that will tell you who you are.

They need love
They need god
They need guidance from above

- "Grease theme", Bee Gees

I saw my problems and I'll see the light
We got a lovin' thing, we gotta feed it right
There ain't no danger we can go too far
We start believin' now that we can be who we are - grease is the word

They think our love is just a growin' pain
Why don't they understand? It's just a cryin' shame
Their lips are lyin', only real is real
We stop the fight right now, we got to be what we feel - grease is the word

It's got a groove, it's got a meaning
Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion
Grease is the way we are feeling

We take the pressure, and we throw away conventionality, belongs to yesterday
There is a chance that we can make it so far
We start believin' now that we can be who we are - grease is the word

This is a life of illusion, a life of control
Mixed with confusion - what're we doin' here?

Bowie: the many colors of a chameleon

Last weekend, a miracle occurred. I got the desire/urge to organize my room a bit. So I started going through drawers & sorting through the millions of things I’ve been stuffing into them for the last couple of years. I tend to hang onto things like concert tickets, flyers, napkins from cafés. & when I come across a photo/ article in a magazine that’s of my interest, I usually save it. I’ve got folders full of clippings & pages with bands, movies, artists, fashion ads.

Anyways, I came across this newspaper article about David Bowie which I didn't remember having read (sometimes I save stuff to read later, & sometimes that later is a LOT later). So I read. I liked it so I’m posting the link here. It’s in Spanish & it may not say anything spectacular or innovative but I JUST LIKED IT, OK? Bowie’s inarguably a fascinating character. Articles like this make me wanna know more & more about him.

"Secrets", Jamaica

Another thing I dig about the internet is the idea of PostSecret. It’s a website where ppl anonymously submit secrets. There’s a women’s magazine here in Argentina called OH LA LA that has a couple of pages in each issue with the same theme. Perhaps the reason I (& the public in general) get a kick out of these things is bc they give you a glimpse into other ppl’s realities, their day-to-day lives.

There are several pages that follow the concept of PostSecret but within a certain topic. My personal favorite is ManicSecret, (formerly on LiveJournal Communities, now on Tumblr) dedicated to secrets relating to the Manic Street Preachers. Example: The Manics taught me that being Welsh and intelligent were good things. They also got me into politics, although I feel embarrassed that I actually vote Conservative. Despite being obviously centre-right, I really wish I could move to the left, but I just don't believe in it. I want to apologise to both the band and their fans.

Users can also choose to submit their secrets in the form of a graphic. Example:

It reads "I lost my virginity to you. I've never told anyone, you didn't even know. I'm still sort of ashamed". Since this is THE INTERWEBZ it's easy to lie, I can’t help but wonder if it’s 4real or someone did it just for kicks. But then again, it could be true. I mean, all the groupies who used to follow them around all over Europe...where are they now?

Everyone has, at some point, thought about somebody... be it a celebrity or someone they know, & thought “I WONDER WHAT THEY ARE DOING RIGHT NOW”. I remember once in 1999 I was with my friend Kata watching Nirvana’s “Smells like teen spirit” video & we wondered where the cheerleaders who appeared dancing possesed were @ that exactl moment, what they were doing, etc. Look, see, Kanye West does it too.

Last LOL

Bonus: an image related to what I said at the beginning of my last post. Seeing as it was reblogged by a gazillion people, I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE, YO.

Lolz, gifs n Tumblrs

Lately I’m more easily amused than usual. I find myself literally LOLing with many animated GIFs & macros I see on Tumblr. & later randomly remembering them (on the streets, @ the gym) & smiling or laughing in public. Some of them are so clever. Ppl can be so funny. Perhaps even more so on the internet. Sometimes I think this is true for me.

Another thing I love about the internet/ Tumblr/ Pages you can Like on FB is that you find all this stuff about everyday life & learn it’s part of 1000 other ppl’s everyday lives, too. & maybe you thought it was just you. An example of this is the Fuck Yea Meme, based on when a small awesome something happens (such as you arriving to the bus stop & the bus pulling up a second later), you think/ feel FUCK YEA. Example:

BTW I realize this is in complete contrast with the post I did whining about other people not understanding. But both realities coexist. Lately I think see this as one of the FACTS OF LIFE. That whatever exists, the opposite exists too & is just as true. This makes it really hard to generalize. & to think, sometimes. It’s as though lately I can’t think in terms of affirmations without immediately contradicting myself. It’s a bit maddening. At the same time, it’s like the more I understand (myself, others, life), the more confused I get...

Anyways another thing ppl do is make screencaps from films or series with English subtitles while funny/ epic/ totally true things are being said.

Then there are the animated GIFs that also often come from movies or TV shows. Sometimes the captions are included in the actual GIF, other they are added in plain text by whoever is posting/ reblogging. Occasionally the captions are references to songs or films, in that case they will only make sense to those who can pick up on said reference. Animals are often the subjects of all this stuff I’m talking about. But here's a GIF of makeup artist Sutan from America's next top model dancing.

Photobucket

Recently something that makes me giggle a lot is “LIKE A BOSS”. I suppose it refers to when you say or do something epic &/or with an “I win at life” attitude. The expression could be working its way into modern talking... see, there’s a YouTube video ppl are calling Koala eating apple like a boss. Some research revealed it comes from a Saturday Night Live skit with Andy Samberg. I recently saw a post on Tumblr that said “REBLOG IF YOU DON’T HAVE AN IPHONE OR BLACKBERRY” followed by the LIKE A BOSS animated GIF from television. The post had been reblogged (on Tumblr you can see how many users have reposted a post) by 17,253 people. INCLUDING ME : )
