Hell's Bells + Judith

The other day I was feeling kinda glum when I walked in2 the gym & “Hell’s bells” by AC/DC started playing on the loudspeakers. When stuff like that happens, I feel like it’s a message from the Universe telling me to cheer up, or that things will be alright.

Last year I downloaded a ton of documentaries from various Torrent sites & there was this one called Hell's Bells: The Dangers of Rock 'N' Roll. Wikipedia describes it as “a Christian documentary film released in 1989. Eric Holmberg produced & directed the film, as well as its successor: Hell's Bells 2 - The Power & Spirit of Popular Music. The film examines the relationship of rock music to sex, violence, suicide, drug use, rebellion, the occult, & other activities considered immoral by Biblical Theology. The music in the documentary is music produced prior to the 90s. The film portrays various lyrics & visual imagery in rock music & rock stars as evidence that it is satanic or anti Christian”.

It was very long (maybe 4 hrs? There were many parts) & pretty interesting. Aleister Crowley was discussed a lot. Yknow, the occult dude who said “& ye harm none, do what ye will”. Apparently a lot of rockers adored him.

Can’t help but wonder what ~Eric Holmberg~ would say about things like
“Hard on for Jesus” & “Godless”, The Dandy Warhols
“Me & Jesus don’t talk anymore”, Beulah
“Judith”, A Perfect Circle
“God”, Tori Amos
& the album “The holy bible” by Manic Street Preachers

You're such an inspiration
For the ways that I will
Never, ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How your savior has abandoned you

Fuck your God, your Lord, your Christ
He did this, took all you had and
Left you this way, still you pray, never stray, never
Taste of the fruit, never thought to question "Why?"

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you broken down & paralyzed
He did it all for you

Oh so many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you

Pray to your Christ, to your God
Never taste of the fruit, never stray, never break, never
Choke on a lie even though he's the one who
Did this to you, you never thought to question "Why?"

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ as if he knows the reasons why

He did it all for you (x3)
- “Judith”, A perfect circle

Love this song. I recall catching the video on MTV’s 120’ in the middle of the night back in 2001. The band included chick bassist Paz Lenchantin who is from Argentina & later played in Zwan, which I dislike. But she is cool anyways.
