The only one I know & That ~Faraway~ Feeling

"The only one I know", Charlatans UK. The song has been in my head intermittently for nearly a year now. I read about it in an interview w/ Nicky Wire of the Manic Street Preachers when he was asked what he listened 2 in the mornings while getting ready. He may have even claimed 2 be addicted 2 the tune. I haven’t heard much of the Charlatans but I always knew my friend Pool liked them, & she likes good stuff. Mostly Britpop.

Well, the track is beautiful & catchy. It’s very calm & mellow. Not sure if I’d listen 2 it every morning while getting ready. But definitely a song 4 walking down the street & feeling like you’re in a music video. Especially on a grey day like this one. It gives me That Faraway Feeling.

Dyknow what I’m talking about? I LOVE That Faraway Feeling. It’s this sensation I get from music. I think mostly from British rock...It’s kind of hard 2 explain...Well, apart from being FARAWAY, it’s just like...I feel as though the song is...distant in time & space. Old...like from the 80s, 90s. I don’t get the feeling listening to Duran Duran or Happy Mondays although they’re from this time period. Neither w/ the Beatles nor Zeppelin although they’re also old.

It’s a hazy, dreamy, foggy, feeling. I also associate it w/ grayness & waterfalls for some reason... maybe bc the sky in England is always gray & bc “Waterfall” is a song by The Stone Roses & they TOTALLY give me TFF. Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci often do as well, & they’re not Brit rock (what are they, Welsh rock?). Some songs by the Manics do, such as Slash n burn...although it's not mellow...

I’ve been wanting 2 write about That Faraway Feeling 4 a long time & well, @ LEAST THIS IS A START. On another hand, “The only one I know” has been important in my life & I listen 2 it frequently. While walking, b4 sleeping...mostly b4 sleeping, now. I sang it a lot during the residential YES+ @ Irenaika w/ Kamlesh back in February. That course was important in my life. I sometimes wish I could go back there. To that time. & to many others, of course. I remember singing the chorus in the shower. Also during my Germany trip.
WELL, ENOUGH. THANKS NICKY WIRE.
