A girl who's too sad to give a fuck (Bright Eyes)

The other night with Seanne (Xiani, xylophone), Austin (PowerZ LOL) & maybe Olivia (Tremor Control) as well we discussed Bright Eyes & how everyone they know is like "O ya, I liked Bright Eyes back when I was 16". I didn't like Bright Eyes when I was 16, but around that time I was listening 2 the only album of his I've ever heard in its entirety: "Fevers & mirrors". My opinion? I dig his lyrics (of course...so emo, so me), but the music...not so mich. Conor Oberst, u are a ~st0ne f0x~, but...2 whiny & dramatic even 4 my taste, sry. Some ppl have since then recommended songs by him. Irana liked "Bowl of oranges" & put it on a mix she made me, 4 example, Etienne said I gotta check out some of his later work & other Saddle Creek stuff & I will. Just haven't gotten around 2 it yet. Anyways we were talking about that song "Lover I don't have to love", was that his hit or something? Everyone seems 2 know it. I liked the lyrics then (@ 16), I like them now...worth remembering, if u ask me.

I picked you out
Of a crowd & talked to you.
Said I liked your shoes,
You said, "Thanks, Can I follow you?"

So it's up the stairs,
And out of view. No prying eyes.
I poured some wine.
I asked your name;
You asked the time.

Now it's two o'clock.
The club is closed,
We are up the block.
Your hands are on me,
Pressing hard against your jeans,
Your tongue in my mouth,
Trying to keep the words from coming out,
You didn't care to know
Who else may have been you before.

I want a lover I don't have to love,
I want a girl who's too sad to give a fuck.
Where's the kid with the chemicals?

I thought he said to meet him here,
But I'm not sure.
I've got the money
If you've got the time.
He said, "It feels good."
I said "I'll give it a try."

Then my mind went dark,
We both forgot where your car was parked.
Let's just take the train.
I'll meet up with the band in the morning

Bad actors, with bad habits...
Some sad singers, they just play tragic.

& the phone is ringing,
& the van is leaving
Let's just keep touching,
Let's just keep...keep singing

I want a lover I don't have to love,
I want a boy who's so drunk he doesn't talk.
Where's the kid with the chemicals?

I got a hunger & I can't seem to get full.
I need some meaning I can memorize.
The kind I have always seems to slip my mind.

But you, but you...

You write such pretty words,
But life's no storybook.
Love's an excuse to get hurt.
& to hurt.
Do you like to hurt?
I do, I do.
Then hurt me (repeat etc etc)

- "Lover I don't have to love", BRiGHT EYES

Ha, I was googling the cover art for the album & found this description. "Simple guitar tunes & above all, the dramatic voice of Conor Oberst. Some call him the voice of the generation. @ the least, the voice of all depressive & self-obsessed souls". SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT, UH HUH.

&&& I recall Conor is in2 Latin American stuff. Like, he had another band called Desaparecidos after the ppl who disappeared during Argentina's military dictatorship. I used 2 like their song "What's new for fall", kinda about ~FASHiON~. Or maybe it had a srs bsns, Deep Meaning but I didn't get it. Wouldn't be a surprise since I'm not the sharpest crayon in the box. Desaparecidos had an album called WRITE MUSIC READ SPANISH or something like that. BUENA ONDA.

Subway sect (Dream)

The other night I dreamt of being lost on the subway in New York City, a place I haven’t visited since early 2005. In the dream, I was surprised to learn that the 1-9, which I used to ride waaay uptown to the apartment my brother shared with his girlfriend (who is no longer his girlfriend, actually. Her last name had the word Music in it, isn’t that awesome?), no longer connected north & south Manhattan. I was gonna have to change trains a billion times to reach my destination. I remember that it was wintertime, everyone was all bundled up, & thinking “How does Courtney do it, manage to get around?” bc the new subway map looked so confusing & complicated, @ least 2 me. I was wearing The Dress of Disgrace @ the time.

As far as I can recall, I’ve never been lost on the NYC Subway. But I have on the Paris Métro. Very unhappy times. I had absolutely no idea where I was, not just geographically speaking : P Like I totally know now, ha. Anyways, it was also probably a kinda dangerous situation, but of course you don’t consider such things until later. I was crying, everything was spinning (Anoche me acosté y todo daba vueltas menos mi corazón, says a friend’s screen name. Last night I went to bed & everything was spinning except my heart. LOLz. He’s 15, ok, STFU. He's also like a TOTAL ~st0ne fox~, I fell head over heels when I saw him, I couldn't wipe the Cheshire Cat Grin off my face. So I corrected the spelling mistakes in his screen name) but somehow I texted Eugenia, who luckily managed to guide me back to hers.

“Lost in a Paris nightclub”, Kahimi Karie. Hm…Don’t think so. But I did get kind of lost on the way to Le Paris Paris. Rather, I...lost the club. Couldn’t find it. I knew the street (Ave de L'Opéra) & which corner it was supposed to be (across from a bank?) on but...it just wasn’t there dude, I’m srs. I thought “What if it’s like those places that only show up @ certain times & 4 certain ppl?” Like the Room of Requirement in Harry Potter or the bookstore in The Neverending Story. I went once with Eugenia & Baptiste, one of my best nights in Paris. After having wine with Andrés near République. I missed that night for the rest of my trip. Anyways the girl guarding the bathroom @ Paris Paris was soOoO pretty, I was like SALUT TU EST TRÈS JOLIE (I said this 4real). She had blood red lipstick, it was LOVE. Then I tried to go again with Yael but we couldn't find it so we went to Le Marais, & this couple of lesbians came & asked us if we were lesbians. Also I tried to go alone one night but I couldn't find it either. So I got on the vélib (public transport bicycle) & rode back to home (Quai de la Loire), wasted, losing a scarf with ~deep sentimental value~ in the process. DOUBLE FAIL. I came to the conclusion that the club isn’t open every weekend when summer is approaching & I hope I’m right bc otherwise it means I am a gigantic retard.

“Lost in the supermarket”, The Clash.
I think of it every time it’s my turn to do the groceries. It reminds me of Nyssa as well bc she liked. & I texted it to Andrew one time he was @ the store while I waited for him at the St Paul métro. Condensed milk in a tube plz.

“Lost in the K-Hole”, the Chemical Brothers.
I had no idea K-hole actually meant something & was not Chemical Babble, but Whitney recently enlightened me: Ketamine hole, “but a k-hole can be anytime you are tragically stuck & cannot quite get out...” DUDE, I KNOW ALL ABOUT THOSE LAST ONEZ. But I’m not in a K-hole right now…nope… : ) Chemical Bros to me is Marcia bc I went to the concert with her (tragic experience, 4 another post), Dandy, 2005, Fernando Peña (this has an explanation), my radio class with JPT...

Richey Edwards (yes, I can find a way to mention him in EVERY POST) liked a band called Subway sect, especially the song “Nobody’s scared”. & now I gotta go get my sins absolved...

Friday featuring T-Rex Motivation, Frank Zappa Trouble, & a really rocking compliment

Friday evening, riding the 60 on the way to YES+, looking out the window, I saw a guy in his early 30s wearing a business suit walking down Las Heras wearing those huge headphones. He was dancing more than walking. & he was singing too. He was obviously ROCKING & ROLLING, digging the fact that it was FRIDAY EVENING. I thought about the line “Love the way you walk” from “The Motivator” by T-Rex. It reminded me of this one time I saw a Boy I really liked (in fact, I've never liked anyone so much) from afar, walking down the hall @ Uni. He also seemed to sorta be doing a little dance. I recall his tall frame kinda swaying side to side (or was I hallucinating?), his lovely hair, his jeans, his red All Stars, his backpack. That line playing in my head: Love the way you walk ♪ My ♥ skipped a beat, started racing, my chest filled with butterflies...one or all of the above. I rushed 2 the nearest bathroom & hid. I was probably 19, although the behavior sounds more like a 10 year old’s : P

Got off the bus. “Trouble every day” by Frank Zappa was playing on the iPod.

I mean to say that every day
Is just another rotten mess
& when it's gonna change, my friend
Is anybody's guess
So I'm watching & I'm waiting
Hopin' for the best
Even think I go to praying
Every time I hear them sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' everyday

A girl walked past me on the street. Her t-shirt read HERE COMES TROUBLE. Funny, bc I’d just been thinking about how sometimes I have such a knack (yes, like the band that did “My Sharona” in Reality Bites, the song they dance in minimart. Kata & I used to LOL @ this so much) for geting myself into ~TROUBLE~.

Then during the course, a blonde girl called Cassandra ("Cassandra Gemini", The Mars Volta!) MADE MY DAY by saying “Tenés cara de rockstar” followed by sth along the lines of “Deberías tener una banda o algo. Pero una banda de chicas” (You look like a rockstar. You should have a band or something. But a girl band). That’s like, one of the most AWESOME things someone has ever said to me. I was like “OMG, THX SO MUCH, I LOVE U 4 THIS”, with a Cheshire Cat Grin. Or as we say in YES+: with a Pregnant Hippopotamus Smile xD

On this page, we see a little girl giggling at a hippopotamus. I wonder why…
- “Magic Medicine”, Incubus

Anyways, Richey loved 2 play Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega. I wonder if this game existed when he was around.

Among other things, in recent D-D-Dreams: Dandy Warhols, Danny C, Viktor Dragon

& how that band played, you really had to stare, you'd hardly be aware that you were blinking, yeah...

7 years ago yesterday I went to see Rooney @ The Village Underground in NYC. They were named after the principal an 80s cult film about skipping school, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, starring Matthew Broderick. It also inspired the name of the band Save Ferris (known in the late 90s for their cover of a song called “Come on Eileen”). Ezequiel likes this movie.

Well. The lead singer of Rooney, Robert Carmine, is the ½ brother of the former drummer of Phantom Planet…Jason Schwartzman! Awesome actor from Rushmore, Spun, I ♥ Huckabee’s, Marie Antoinette, Darjeeling Limited & the awesome series Bored to death. I ♥ Jason Schwartzman, dude. Robert’s real last name is Coppola Schwartzman, by the way. & he had a small role in The Virgin Suicides, Sofia Coppola’s ~masterpiece~. One of my fav movies.

Anyways, Phantom Planet. Poor Phantom Planet. They did the theme song from The OC. Californiaaaaa, here we come. If you ask me…that song…sux. & that’s what everyone knows them for. Maybe it doesn’t suck, but it’s…blah. & they are a nice band, rly. I have their first 2 albums. Maybe there’s something about California tunes. I don’t like “California” by Rufus Wainwright either. But wait, I ♥ “California lovin” by 2pac. A lot. So nevermind. Also, I ♥ The OC. Saw eeevery episode. Seth Cohen is a st0ne f0x & if he were a real person, I dunno…I wish he were a real person & we were best friends. Summer Roberts, I am so jealous of you. I ♥ Marissa Cooper too although she was such an annoying drama queen (like me)/damsel-in-distress-omg-I-need-a-boy-to-rescue-me-always-pls. I have a photo of her on my wall, hah. Also, on one of the episodes, Rooney played a gig @ The Bait shop, the Rock n Roll club where they all lived : ) "Down at the rock n roll club", Richard Hell.

But this was a post about Rooney. The concert in NYC rocked. I was exiting the bathroom when I almost crashed into…Fab Moretti from The Strokes. OMG. Then Nick Valensi was leaning against a wall. He was so long & lean, it was love. I actually ended up meeting Fab Moretti nearly 3 years later here in Buenos Aires, but that’s another story ; )

Recommended Rooney tunes: Popstars (1st one I heard, makes fun of Britney, Nsync, Mandy Moore etc), Blueside, Daisy Duke, I’m shakin’, If it were up to me, Sorry Sorry, The Floor, Stay away, Meltdown.

Hey baby
You've hit me again one more time
You said "Bye bye bye bye bye bye good-bye"
Well I don't wanna be with you tonight, forever

Do you understand my monologue?
These are the words of the popstars
These are the words of the upsophisticated money-machines
For the killers of rock and roll

- "Popstars", Rooney

Phantom Planet: Lisa (Does it hurt you?) -- my #1 fav, The local black & red (#2), Turn smile shift repeat, So I fall again, Lonely Day, Recently distressed.

Sitting in your room,
Drinking your perfume,
Wondering which day of the week
I'll die on now,
I'm lying on your bed,
Unscrewing your head,
Trying to figure out
What's wrong, inside,
So you don't hate yourself tonight...yeah

- "The local black & red", Phantom Planet

Will try to rip & upload mp3s soon.

"That boy needs therapy!"

A sample of this exclamation is @ the beginning of the song "Fronteir psychiatrist" by The Avalanches. That song is linked to late 2004 for me...November, to be exact. Pato's Flower Power Party at an awesome house on Heredia. Breakfast @ McDonalds with Nico & Luciana afterwards. They were also the days of the Sugarcubes & Meat Puppets.

"I think I think too much", Richey Edwards.
Me too. Gemini also is the most rational sign of the Zodiac.

I'm tied down with stinkin thinkin
Stinkin thinkin gets you nowhere
I'm weighed down with stinkin thinkin
Stinkin thinkin comes from somewhere
- "Stinkin thinkin", The Happy Mondays

According to Richey, Stinkin thinkin is "the best therapy song. It's a brilliant lyric". I like it too. Simple, to the point : ) I put it on a mix CD I made for a dude, once...A few months later we listened to it with Kata in her car & she thought the track sucked/was LOL-worthy : (

Too much thinkin's got you down again
- "The thrill of it all", Roxy Music

I started watching this show last year. Romo recommended it. The patients are real life people: comedians like Ray Romano (long before "Everybody loves Raymond", which I don't rly btw), Gary Shandling ("The Larry Sanders show"), Janeane Garofalo (who starred in "Reality Bites" with Winona Ryder). It's done with an animation technique called retroscripting (by the Retroranch! or sth like that, which I know nothing about. It aired on Comedy Central in the mid 90s.

I like stuff from the early/mid 90s. I always think about where I was & what things were like @ the time these things I learnt about much l8r (Nirvana, Real World San Francisco, My So-Called Life, Richey, MSP's first 3 albums, Dr Katz, etc) were going on.

Once I dreamt of running into Lucas Marti -formerly of Tirador Laser (Argentine band)- @ a party in a castle & he said "I remember you from the 90s. I think the year was also 2004.

Bonus:
LOST season 6 premiere Many interesting & intelligent theories in this post by Sean Adam Simpson.
How to tell if your cat is plotting to kill you Mine is...most def : P
Lucy = Lucifer. Pool always said so.
