I get high with a little help from my friends (420)

It’s April 20th, 4-20 (in English you say the month 1st as opposed 2 Spanish, when you’d say 20 de Abril, 20-4), sooo official Marijuana day. In the US they just say “Happy 420” though. Dunno where else it’s “celebrated”. Perhaps mostly English speaking countries? Wikipedia cites the US, Canada & New Zealand.

Synonyms for marijuana
- The ones I’ve heard most are: Weed, Pot, Reefer, Dope, Ganja, Herb, Doobie, Bud, Mary Jane, grass, Cannabis, Cheeba, Chronic, Joint, Spliff, Roach, Bong, Bowl
- List contains some interesting terms though, such as: Buddha, Alaskan Thunderfuck & Canamo Indio (I’m guessing these are varieties) Rainy Day Woman (a nod 2 the Bob Dylan song of the same title, see below : ); Texas Tea, Hocus Pocus, Whacktabacky, Sweet Lucy…
- My additions: snoochie boochies (did Kevin Smith’s “Jay & Silent Bob” make this up? Think I only heard it from them, green yuckies & shois (coined by a friend who shall remain nameless).

I use “weed”. There are also various adjectives used to describe someone who has smoked. I use “stoned”.

Anyways a lot of people like weed, a lot of artists like weed, & artists make art about things they like. So there are a lot of songs about weed. Here are some.

- “Marijuana”, Cibo Matto
- “Marihuana boogie”, Manu Chao
- “Mary Jane”, The Vines Nice dreamy tune for going to sleep
- “Cannabis”, Cornelius
- “Cannabis”, Serge Gainsbourg
- “Lou Weed”, Dandy Warhols ** one of my fav songs by one of my fav bands
- “Smokin the herb again”, Incubus
- “Smoke”, Blend
- "Smoke it", Dandy Warhols
- “Hashpipe”, Weezer
- “Let's get stoned”, Children of Judah ** fucking ace. Came to know it via Down to the bone
- “Stoned”, Silverchair from the "Mallrats" (Kevin Smith) OST
- “Fly guy trap (The perfect high)”, The Fly Guys
- “High times”, Jamiroquai **
- “Because I got high”, Afroman (although I hate this song & wish it didn’t exist)

But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

- “Rainy day woman” #12 & 25, Bob Dylan (epic)

The police chief & I got soul to soul
The police chief & I got slowly stoned

- “God’s cop”, Happy Mondays

Deep inside I’m on my own & I can’t see straight
Deep inside I’m so stoned I can’t see straight

- “Deep inside”, Incubus (Also one of my fav songs by one of my fav bands. I even put it on the mix CD I mailed to Daniel Johns when I was 17...LOL)

All the faces I love their skin as soft as leprosy
I'm bored out of my mind & I'm too stoned lazy to see

- “Bored outta my mind”, Manic Street Preachers (leprosy huh? Typical MSP mentioning awful things...loves it :P)

It's 1969 in my head
I just wanna have no place to go
I'm livin' through the sound of the dead
I'm gonna get stoned look round at my soul

- “1969”, The Vines (they are such st0nerz)

I get by with a little help from my friends
I get high with a little help from my friends
- “With a little help from my friends”, The Beatles (legendary)

Say at the speed of Cheeba, oh you & I go deeper
Maybe I'll have to get high to get by, hey

- “Space cowboy”, Jamiroquai (another famous toker)

Well, I really think you should quit smoking
- (audio sample @ the end of) “How does it make you feel?”, Air

Of course there are 1000 others. The Dandy Warhols & Happy Mondays alone have tons more I’m certain. & I didn't put anything en Español. But I’m too ~st0ned~ to finish this post. Just kidding. To be honest: I wish I wasn’t, though : P

Movies: Dazed & Confused, Dude where’s my car, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, 24 hr party people, DiG!, Half Baked
TV: Weeds, That 70s Show, 21 Dias Fumando Porros (documentary from Spain where a young female journalist smokes 21 days 2 see what happens. I downloaded but haven't watched yet. She's done 21 days with a bunch of other experiences such as living on the street or without money or something & not eating. I'm under the impression she's one of those media personalities you either love or h8...in Spain anyways. Btw ppl who speak Spanish: yes, they say porroS en España, ja)
Bonus: Did you know Alanis Morrissette is a huge stoner? I totally didn’t see that one coming. She did an interview with THC (or was it High Times?) magazine going on about how important it is to talk to your plants & stuff. Bc she grows & everything.

Understanding everything but you know nothing at all ("Black crow", Jamiroquai)

Lately I always put this on when I'm getting in2 bed. It's on a Winamp playlist (yes, I still use Winamp. Parent tested, llama approved...or how did it go? : ) called ZZZZ. It's not 1st but I've been double clicking on it 1st & then putting Shuffle. Along with "Manifest Destiny" it's my fav slow Jamiroquai song (me hacen doler el esternón, they make my sternum hurt). I have memories of listening 2 it during a long winding (& nausea inducing : ) car ride through the mountains of Ecuador w/ Julia, Andrea & Pocha. We were on our way from Quito 2 Esteros del Plátano, an isolated beach in the province of Esmeraldas. That was one of the best trips of my life, together with the recent one 2 Berlin. We listened 2 Jamiroquai a lot, especially "Dynamite". That was also when I got in2 funk bc we were always listening 2 George Clinton, & I met los panas, the groovies, the funk soul brothers, who I am totally gonna write about one day. Patrice, Dub side of the moon, Bob Marley, Massive Attack... anyways.

He sees the stormy anger of the world
And wants no part of it at all

And as the weeping leaves of Autumn curl
He feels the savage winter call

See far below the dust of conflict settles on the hill
Where there was no escape before
And as he spreads his wings and soars up to another level
He brings the icy prophecies of war

Black crow, black crow, tell me where you really go
When you fly into the sunset, high in evening sky,
Black crow, black crow, tell me what you really know
Will we flourish in this hurricane, or will we fall and die?

While children lose their souls and so much more
To ragged armies of the field
A vicious fanfare cries appeasing hungry savages
To trigger that their fate is surely sealed
I wonder where that black crow sleeps as day beckons the night
Or if he even sleeps at all
I wonder what he thinks of all the human traffic far below
That's struggled on the road so, so long

Tell me black crow, black crow silently you pass above
Understanding everything but you know nothing at all
Black crow black crow, tell me what you really know
Do you understand the pain that we feel down here at all?

- "Black crow", Jamiroquai

My smile is a rifle, Light Years

Following the tradition of the previous two Mondays...(Dame) Nicky Wire’s Cheshire Cat Grin/Cara de Feliz Cumpleaños to begin the week in full swing X D

It should be easy bc I’m feeling “All is full of love”. Plus some words courtesy of my pal Jay Kay:

Light years away from the colour of our brotherhood
Light years away from our duty to assistance

You can be light years
Away from serious intention
& I thought I'd change it all
Someday
I'd get to turn mankind
This way

If you don't know you can be light years
Away from your true destination

Until I get with good vibration
I'm never ever gonna get to use that
use that earthly power

Now I got sunshine in my life

I was light years away

Now I got that sunshine in my life

Light years half a million miles from what you wanna be
Did you ever hear about the man who tried to be truly free
Truly free
You know what I mean

Light years will stand between the laws of principle
& now we think we are invincible
But without true power it's unthinkable

But I'm gonna learn to jump back, stand back & use that earthly power
I was light years away
Have you ever been light years away from what you wanna be?

Now I got sunshine in my life.
Light years away from what I wanted to be
Now I got that sunshine in my life
I was light years away & I couldn't come back
Now I got that sunshine in my life
Etc etc etc

Power pop songs 4 the gym

I love “The Reeling” by Passion Pit, it’s one of my Songs of the Moment. As such, I dig listening 2 it @ the gym. On the ELLIPTICAL. On my PINK IPOD.

Mosta my favorite gym songs have things in common. They’re upbeat, contain electronic elements, make you (or just me) wanna dance like crazy. Often they’ve got a chorus of little kid voices. I wonder what the technical name 4 that is. The 1st distinct example that comes 2 mind is

“D.A.N.C.E”, Justice. 1st heard @ a party where Esteban was DJing. I was hooked after hearing it once. I had to have that song! A couple of days l8r we spoke & I described it in hopes he could tell me what it was, but I thought it was a lost cause. Lucky for me, it wasn’t! When I mentioned the chorus of little kid voices, he said he knew which track I was talking about. Voilà how I discovered the awesomeness that is JUSTICE.

Then we’ve got...

“Baby”, PNAU. I felt the same way about this song as I did about DANCE, in fact it totally reminds me of it. Except it was brought to my attention by a mix CD from Richie. I listened 2 it nonstop 4 a long time, especially @ the gym but also while getting ready b4 going out. It's sooo catchy. Ehhh-ohhh-ehhh-ohhh-ehhh.

“Cheap & Cheerful (SebastiAn Remix)”, The Kills. Dunno what 2 say about this except it makes me WANT 2 PARTY HARD & DANCE DANCE DANCE. Ezequiel sent it 2 me. Dig the lyrix: I want you to be crazy ‘cause you’re boring baby when you’re straight

“Ce jeu (Twelves remix)”, Yelle. Also from a Richie CD, folder titled "Disco shit". Ugh I love this song. Her voice, the lyrics, everything. Yelle is apparently rly big among the fotologgers here. I had never heard her stuff. In fact I haven’t heard anything else by her, not even the original version of this song. But this track is enough 2 make her WIN in my book.

“One crazy diva”, EZ Rollers. Drum n bass @ it’s finest. Discovered it after asking Flavia, a regular @ +160 -Bs As' classic Tuesday Drum n Bass parties-, what artists of this genre I should download & she suggested EZ Rollers. They have an album called Weekend World...thumbs up.

“Fa fa fa”, Datarock. Can’t remember how I found this. But I saw them live @ the BUE festival (or was it the Personal fest?) back in 2007 w/ Richie. We arrived @ the tent where they were playing just in time 4 this song. They were all wearing red Adidas tracksuits like Ben Stiller & his offspring in the Royal Tenenbaums. When the chorus said “I need a FIX” they’d hold up signs that said “FIX” & such.

“Intensify”, !!!. A number by the super cool band complete with little kid singing. I’m still lamenting having missed their late 2008 gigs in Buenos Aires. FAIL.

“Faster kill pussycat”, Paul Oakenfold feat Brittany Murphy. RIP beautiful Brittany Murphy : ( Did you know she could sing? I didn’t until I heard this via Villa Diamante’s fotolog.

Other faves I am too lazy 2 write about @ the moment (maybe in the future!) include...

“Gypsy woman”, Crystal Waters
“Point of view”, DB Boulevard
“Muder on the dancefloor”, Sophie Ellis Bextor
“Shifter”, Timo Maas
“It’s the beat”, Simian Mobile Disco
“Starchild”, Jamiroquai
Daft Punk: SO MANY. 2 name a few: Harder better faster stronger, Robot rock, Crescendolls, Oh yeah
“She’s my man”, Scissor Sisters
“Do it better”, the Happy Mondays
“Alala”, Cansei De Ser Sexy
“Le rock summer”, Rinôçerôse
“Ping pong”, Stereolab
“Mohammed is Jesus”, Deep Dish
“She wants to move”, NERD
“Toxic”, Britney Spears
“Notorious”, Duran Duran
“Dança do zumbi”, Bonde do Role
“Inspired”, Satoshi Tomie
“Daft punk is playing @ my house”, LCD Soundsystem
